The Junior Entrepreneur Programme has become part and parcel of school life in St Clare’s.
It gives the children the opportunity to develop an understanding about what an entrepreneur is and experience what is involved in setting up their own business. They then go through the gruelling process of Dragons Den and from there a new idea is formed.
Once “The Big Idea” is decided on by the class the hard work really begins with market research, advertising ideas and designing, making and selling the product. As well as this the children invest some of their own money in the business so for them making a profit is vital.
In our first year taking part in the JEP the children wrote and illustrated a children’s book and it sold very successfully. Last year they created beautiful greeting cards for all occasions. Both years they were awarded the JEP Flag so we are looking forward to seeing what new business the girls in 5th class will set up this year.

THE FINISHED PRODUCT
Junior Entrepreneur Programme 2018/19
Ms O Connor's class have finished their JEP. They created, illustrated and printed their very own Multicultural Cookbook. With over 20 different nationalities in our school, they had easy access to many different recipes. The girls made a profit of over 1000 euro from the sale of their book. They have decided to use this money to buy outdoor games & activities for the school yard. We are very proud of the girls and their teacher for all their hard work on this project.
Ms O’Connor’s Fifth Class have been working on the
Junior Entrepreneur Programme 2018/19
They hosted a very exciting Dragon’s Den in their class and had four visiting Dragon’s to help choose the most suitable project.
The girls had a visit from a local business person who gave them tips on becoming a good entrepreneur.
In the coming weeks, Fifth Class will be researching and producing a Multicultural Cookbook. They are very excited about it and hope to have the support of the St Clare’s community and beyond.
Make sure to check back in on their progress!
An Update of how the JEP went in our School in 2016/17
This year my class took part in the JEP
It was really good fun! We had to split up into different groups and try to think of different products that we could make. Each of the groups had to narrow all of their ideas to one idea, we had to make samples of our products and show them to the dragons. ( Mrs Donohoe, Mrs Leonard and Mr Walsh) They choose dreamcatchers!
Then we were split into 5 different groups: the storytelling team, the finance team, the sales team, the design and production team and the marketing team. I was on the storytelling team! We had to update the blog, interview each of the teams and take care of the folder, this means that the storytelling team made sure that all of the sheets or activities in the folder were completed by everyone in the class.
The marketing team had to make posters to put around the school, the design and production team made most of the dreamcatchers, the finance team counted all of the money after we sold the dreamcatchers and the sales team sold the dreamcatchers on the day.
On the showcase day we called each class over to our class, and they each bought a dreamcatcher depending on how much money they had. After a while of selling the dreamcatchers we ran out of them and we had to take orders and make more, we took the names of then people that ordered a dreamcatcher. We then called them back to our class and they chose which one they would like!
Over all we made €644.10. With this money we went to the cinema and watched Beauty and the Beast, we had some more money left over and so we got a bus and went to Ericas Fairy Forest! It was so much fun we wrote notes to the fairies!! We still had lots of money left over so we each got 15 euro back!! We all learned something from the JEP: team work is so important and you need to work very hard to get what you want! The JEP was so much fun and I recommend it.
